Funded therapy and nursing for Victorians injured in a transport accident. TAC is a no-fault scheme, so your entitlement does not depend on who caused the accident, and it covers injuries from any transport accident involving a registered vehicle, whether you were a driver, passenger, motorcyclist, cyclist or pedestrian.
We bill TAC directly and there is no gap fee. Where treatment is approved under an accepted claim, you pay nothing.

A course of physiotherapy over weeks to a few months, with an active home program, and it resolves.
A minority
Where symptoms persist, the factors that predict that are known and partly modifiable: early high pain, high distress, and a belief that movement causes damage. That last one is the one treatment can most influence, and it is why we spend time on explanation rather than only on treatment.
Serious injury
It becomes multidisciplinary and coordinated with your case manager over a longer period, with the focus on independence, home, work and driving.
What You Pay
What You Pay
Nothing
Where treatment is approved under an accepted claim, we bill TAC directly and there is no gap fee. You do not pay us and claim it back, and you are not left with a portion to cover yourself.
Claim not accepted yet?
If your claim has not been accepted yet, you can still be treated. Contact us and we will explain the options rather than have you go untreated while it is processed.
This page covers how to claim, what TAC funds, what we provide, and what each of those services actually does.
What TAC Funds With Us, and What Each Service Does
Physiotherapy
The most commonly used TAC service. Assessment and active rehabilitation for whiplash, back, shoulder, knee and limb injuries, fractures after immobilisation, and post-surgical recovery.
The work is progressive loading and graded return to activity, because prolonged rest after whiplash produces worse outcomes than gradual return to movement. Also includes return-to-work programs and physical readiness for driving.
Getting you back to daily life. Home and workplace assessment, equipment and home modifications where an injury has left lasting limitation, task modification, and fatigue and cognitive strategies after a head injury.
Also functional capacity assessment where TAC or your employer needs evidence of what you can currently do.
Wound care after accident-related surgery, medication management, and clinical care at home during a complex recovery, particularly after a long hospital admission.
Nutrition support during recovery, particularly after significant trauma, surgery, or where eating has been affected by jaw, facial or swallowing injury.
Lodge early, even if you are not sure you need treatment. Claim time limits apply, and people who wait to see whether an injury settles often find themselves months later with a harder problem and a more complicated claim.
1
Lodge a claim with TAC
Contact TAC on 1300 654 329 or lodge online at tac.vic.gov.au. The hospital or your GP may have started this already. Time limits apply, so do it as soon as you can.
2
Get your claim number
TAC issues a claim number. Keep it, because you will need it every time you book.
3
See your GP
Your GP provides the initial medical certificate and the referral for treatment. They are also the person who coordinates your recovery and whose reports support your claim.
4
Contact us
Call 1300 765 456 with your claim number and GP referral. If a claim is not lodged yet, tell us and we will explain how.

We handle the TAC administration
Treatment plans, requests for further sessions, progress reports and liaison with your case manager. TAC generally funds a defined initial course of treatment without prior approval, with further treatment continuing on clinical justification. You should be recovering, not doing paperwork.
Frequently Asked Questions
